Sport
Sport plays an important role in life at Kyneton High School
Whether students are participating in Physical Education, representing the school in interschool competitions or developing their skills through specialist programs, sport provides opportunities to build confidence, resilience, teamwork and leadership while supporting lifelong health and wellbeing.
Below you’ll find more information about the many ways students can get involved in sport at Kyneton High School.
Health and Physical Education
All students participate in Health and Physical Education as part of their core learning program, developing the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead healthy, active lives.
Students with a particular interest in sport can further extend their learning through a range of elective subjects, including:
- Sport and Recreation
- Outdoor Education
- Peak Performance: Sport
- Health and Empowerment
- Sport in History
- VCE Physical Education
House Sport
School spirit comes alive through our annual House Swimming Carnival and the House Athletics Carnival. These events encourage participation from students of all abilities while fostering teamwork, resilience and a strong sense of community. In both carnivals, there is something for everyone to enjoy – alongside traditional events, we run ‘Thought Sports’ including Chess and several novelty events to ensure all students can have fun in competition.
Interschool Sport
Students can represent Kyneton High School in a wide range of interschool sports throughout the year across Years 7–12. This is a great way for students to strengthen their peer relationships, to do their best and to get to know teachers and education support staff who are also interested in sports. Try-outs and training take place at recess or lunch times to ensure all students have the opportunity to participate. Many of our students and teams achieve success at divisional, regional and state level, reflecting the talent, commitment and teamwork of our young sportspeople.
Interschool sports offered typically include:
- Athletics
- Badminton
- Basketball
- Cricket
- Cross Country
- Netball
- Soccer
- Swimming
- Tennis
- Volleyball
EmpowerHER Elite Athlete Development Program
EmpowerHER supports girls who are committed to excelling in their chosen sport. The program provides a high-performance environment focused on goal setting, discipline, health and wellbeing, while developing the confidence, resilience and leadership skills required for success both on and off the field.
As part of the program, students also participate in enrichment opportunities, including visits to the Victorian Institute of Sport, where they gain insights into high-performance sport and athlete development.
