Our Vision

At Kyneton High School we work in partnership to own our learning, engaging with the wider community and preparing students for their futures as responsible, successful adults. We strive for excellence, developing confidence and embracing diversity in a respectful, sustainable environment.

Student learning is our core business. Our students are the focus of everything we do, the conversations that we have and the priorities that we identify and undertake.

Core FISO Priorities

  • Excellence in Teaching & Learning – To improve the delivery and achievement of high quality educational outcomes for all students in all curriculum areas with a focus on numeracy and literacy
  • Embed the school-wide Teaching & Learning Model to ensure consistent, high quality teaching practice.
  • Within the implementation of the PLC inquiry cycles, consistently implement the agreed school-wide Teaching & Learning Model, using the updated UbD template and the new lesson planning template.
  • All teachers will be able to use the Gradual Release of Responsibility instructional model, incorporating the HITS, in their lesson planning and classroom practice.
  • Embed the use of assessment data and feedback for monitoring students learning and planning.
  • Implement the PLC inquiry model in all Learning Area teams in order to embed the use of formative assessment data and feedback and monitor the impact of teaching on student learning outcomes.
  • Positive Climate for Learning
  • Continue to develop and implement our Literacy and Numeracy programs.
  • Embed the School Wide Positive Behaviours model, incorporating a robust process of obtaining genuine student feedback on its implementation and impact on student motivation, confidence and resilience
  • Implement a student voice, agency and leadership strategy enabling students to actively contribute to their education and to whole school initiatives
  • Focus on developing a culture of mutual respect across our entire school community.
  • Professional Leadership
  • To improve distributed leadership across the school, featuring high level clarity and accountability of roles, decisions and strategic intent.
  • The Leadership Team leading and supporting distributed leadership and professional learning; in a cycle of improvement, continually monitor and evaluate the impact of teacher professional learning and improved practice on the identified FISO areas of Empowering Students and Building School Pride, and Building Practice Excellence.

Our Commitment to Child and Student Safety

  • Kyneton High School is committed to safety and wellbeing of all children and young people. This will be the primary focus of our care and decision – making.
  • Kyneton High School has zero tolerance for child abuse.
  • Kyneton High School is committed to providing a child safe environment where children and young people are safe and feel safe, and their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives. Particular attention will be paid to the cultural safety of Aboriginal children and children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds, as well as the safety of children with a disability and gender and sexually diverse students.

Every person involved in Kyneton High School has a responsibility to understand the important and specific role he/she plays individually and collectively to ensure that the wellbeing and safety of all children and young people is at the forefront of all they do and every decision they make.

In its planning, decision-making and operations Kyneton High School will:

  • Take a preventative, proactive and participatory approach to child safety;
  • Value and empower children to participate in decisions which affect their lives;
  • Foster a culture of openness that supports all persons to safely disclose risks of harm to children
  • Respect diversity in cultures and child rearing practices while keeping child safety paramount;
  • Provide written guidance on appropriate conduct and behaviour towards children;
  • Engage only the most suitable people to work with children and have high quality staff and volunteer supervision and professional development;
  • Ensure children know who to talk with if they are worried or are feeling unsafe, and that they are comfortable and encouraged to raise such issues;
  • Report suspected abuse, neglect or mistreatment promptly to the appropriate authorities;
  • Share information appropriately and lawfully with other organisations where the safety and wellbeing of children is at risk;
  • Value the input of and communicate regularly with families and carers.

Kyneton High School provides a safe environment for the education of our students. Our absolute commitment to student safety extends to all of our educational activities, including those internal or external to the school environment and those activities that occur during the school day or outside of school hours.

Our vision and values were created in 2016 by a group of our student leaders from all year levels after extensive consultation with our students, staff, parents and wider community.
