Instrumental Music and Choir at Kyneton

At Kyneton High School, we have an exciting instrumental music program. Students can elect to take part in music lessons with experienced, professional teachers through the school. Individual or small group lessons are held once a week during the school day. Students are withdrawn from class on a rotating timetable so that they don’t miss the same class from week to week.

Students can choose to learn from a wide variety of instruments, and our teachers all ensure that they meet the student at their level, and encourage them to pursue their own interests and musical styles. We offer both AMEB and ANZCA exam syllabii, if students are interested in pursuing these avenues.
To further support your child’s musical journey, we encourage performance opportunities throughout the year, both in and outside of school, by the way of School Soirees, Productions, visits to RM Begg nursing home, and Council/locally run Open Mic Nights.

The school offers heavily subsidised lessons in piano, drums, bass, guitar, woodwind and brass instruments. (Please check the current enrolment for up to date pricing.) We also offer lessons on violin and cello by a visiting teacher – price of these lessons would be on application. Instrumental hire is available for flute, clarinet, saxophone, and trumpet.

Music Benefits

Many studies have shown that learning an instrument helps you develop your memory and alertness, as well as showing that students who play music often do better in their regular school subjects.

Playing music can improve your confidence, self-esteem and self-discipline.

It is also a lot of fun and offers you the opportunity to participate in activities like bands, school production and solo performances.

Spring Concert - A Great Success!!

On Wednesday 8th September, the annual Spring Concert was held in the School Hall.

The Concert topped off a very successful Arts Day at the School with a broad range of Arts based activities running throughout the day – including painting and drawing activities, lunchtime concert, theatre sports and the ever popular, pin the nose on Rembrandt!

The Spring Concert featured musical items from the school band as well as a number of solo and duet performances. Congratulations to Year 11 students, Jasmine and Sasha on their brilliant work in organising the event.
